History of CampusHairstyling
Campus Hair Styling opened January 11, 1983.
The location of the barbershop was known as the Orange Bowl in the late 1940's until the early 1960's. The Orange Bowl sold orange juice, grape juice and “delicious hot dogs” as well as candy bars and cigarettes. The proprietors kept track of the different sport scores around the country.
The location was also a former barbershop probably in the 1930's.
Roger and Phyllis Allerheiligen purchased the former Racquet Shop which was a tennis pro shop. They hired Doug DeMonbrun owner of Design Resource Center to help them design the barbershop. The tongue and groove wood on the walls and the brass poles and glass display shelves were the only items retained from the racquet shop. The red oak back bar and display cabinets were custom built by Usher Cabinets in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The shop was designed to look like a traditional barber shop and is furnished with full-size electric barber chairs. In designing the logo for the barbershop, the name
Campus is drawn in the shape of a man’s mustache.
